Bangladesh pace bowler Hasan Mahmud picked up his second five-wicket haul in a row as India was bowled out for 376 runs in its first innings on Day 2 of the first cricket test.

India spared Bangladesh the ignominy of a follow-on but grabbed an overall lead of 308 with seven wickets in hands to seize control of the opening test in Chennai on Friday.

Bangladesh were alive in the game and fighting when off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz troubled the Indian batters with a five-wicket haul while defending a target of just 145 runs. In his five-for, Miraz dismissed Pujara, Gill, Kohli, Pant and Axar and had India reeling at 74/7. But, his effort went in vain as Iyer and Ashwin took India home.

17 wickets fell on day 2 of the first Test between India and Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium as the hosts opened a 308-run lead.

India dismissed Bangladesh for 149 in their first innings, securing a 227-run lead on the second day of the opening Test. Jasprit Bumrah led the bowling attack with 4 wickets.
